Flex Day -  Spring 2020 Sessions

Beyond Textbooks: Reduce Equity Gaps with Open Educational Resources (OER)

An increasingly proven way to remove cost barriers for our students is to adopt Open Educational Resources (OER). Learn the what, why, and how of OER, with a particular focus on how OER can reduce student equity gaps while honoring academic freedom.  Additionally, you'll become familiar with current research on the efficacy of OER.

Introduction to Searching for Open Educational Resources (OER)

Have you heard about OER and wonder whether any materials exist for your courses? In this workshop, learn about the major sources for locating OER, top tips and tricks for searching, and how OERs can help you to replace commercial textbooks. Bring a syllabus or a list of key terms for your course.

Introduction to Open Licensing for Open Educational Resources (OER)

Have you found free online resources and wonder whether you can re-use them? Have you created materials and wonder how you can share them in a way that delineates how others can re-use them? Where does Canvas fit into all of this? In this workshop, learn about the open licenses that make OERs free and legal to share and re-use. Additionally, you’ll see examples of how OER is shared in Canvas.
